Skaneateles, New York
Skaneateles derives its name from the Iroquois ‘Indian’ tribe that means long lake. It is situated at the western border of the county and is in the southwest of Syracuse, New York. The village is at the northern tip of Skaneateles Lake and brings tourists from all over the state of New York and beyond. This little town is rich in tradition and offers a great family atmosphere. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and parks can be found here as well as great waterfront recreation.
It was founded in 1830 from the town of Marcellus. It is a long stretch of sixteen miles of lake which is pristine clear and one of the cleanest lakes in the country. The Utopian Skaneateles Community acquired this town in 1843 and operated several small industries and farms. Today, you will find that this area has progressed over the century to become a great blend of the days of old and current living.
An old stone library in the center of the village is well equipped and hosts a book sale the second week end of July. Adjacent to it, there is an art gallery, called John D Barrow Art Gallery, which is full of beautiful paintings that depict the village, hundred years ago.
Communities and Organizations
The YMCA and community center of Skaneateles (97 State Street, Skaneateles 13152, 315-685-2266) is for people of all ages and it contains a fitness centre, four swimming pools, a game room and an Olympic Ice Rink. There is a beautiful Creamery which houses the Skaneateles Historical Society, holding permanent and rotating exhibits and research facilities. The Rotary Club’s Annual father’s day Pancake Breakfast and the free Syracuse Symphony Concert in July are among other events held here.
Recreation and Entertainment
There are numerous parks with playground, basket ball and tennis courts, jogging path and ice skating. The sidewalks are beautifully adorned with flowers and park benches which is a scenic beauty for those who go for strolling and fishing. Polo games are conducted in July and August in the countryside on Andrews Road. The park spaces are created and well maintained by the village and chamber officials around the village of Skaneateles and to cite a few, Austin Park Pavilion, Jordan and State Street Parks.
Every summer, the Skaneateles Community Band performs lively music in Clift Park where hundreds of people come here with lawn chairs and blankets to watch the event. It is free of cost and children dance and boatmen line the lake side, to listen to the music and enjoy. The annual boat show is held by Finger Lakes Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society in July. In the month of August, world class musicians arrive to perform Chamber music. It is a breathtaking view to watch and take a ride on hot air balloon in Skaneateles and its surrounding areas.
Real Estate In Central New York – Onondaga County
The Central New York region has been one of the best in the country in terms of the Real Estate. The Real Estate Market in the Central New York region has been the picture of stability in a time when volatility has been a common feature of Real Estate Markets around the US. The recession has hit the people hard in pockets and the purchasing power has decreased rapidly. The demand for homes and properties has gone down correspondingly.
The collapse of the lending institutions has brought about a decrease in the borrowing that people do. Many who had taken a loan or any other credit to buy a house had to deal with foreclosure. Even in this devastating economic climate, the Central New York Real Estate Market, particularly Onondaga County Real Estate has been able to maintain some of the lowest number of foreclosures in the country, which is remarkable putting everything into perspective.
Syracuse New York is a major metropolitan city in the Central New York Region. It is the only large city in the County of Onondaga and the Real Estate Market in Syracuse has been successful over the past few years instead of going down. Most of the metropolitan areas in the country have become very expensive to live in. This has made it difficult, for some impossible, to buy a home. Not so in Central New York.
Syracuse has been a major contributor to the sustainability of the Central New York Real Estate Market. According to the data provided by the National Association of Homebuilders, Syracuse is ranked as one of the top metropolitan cities in terms of housing affordability. You can easily buy an affordable home for yourself in Syracuse.
Finding homes in Syracuse is easy when visiting any of Dave Pridgen’s many websites. Studying the market trends, the Syracuse Real Estate Market is expected to be a profitable one and making an investment now will not be a bad decision. The stability in the Syracuse Real Estate Market ensures that any property you buy will not diminish in value in the foreseeable future.
On the contrary, as the financial markets recover from the ongoing recession, Real Estate prices around the country, in less stable areas, are unpredictable. As mentioned above, the Syracuse Real Estate Market has some of the most affordable homes in the USA and you don’t need to give an arm and a leg to get one for yourself. This is great news for people who are looking to move to Syracuse in the near future.
The Central New York Real Estate Market is one of the best options for anyone wanting to buy a home for their family or making your Real Estate Investment portfolio grow.
